In-between clean touch ups!

Even the most dedicated and committed homeowner can get overwhelmed and frustrated by how quickly frequently used areas get nasty again. Especially if you have children! I want to post a quick tip on how to help prolong the effects of your last cleaning and get you through to the next time you clean again.

In the bathroom, an effective natural alternative to lysol wipes, is alcohol wipes. You can get these almost anywhere, especially at your local drugstore, CVS, Walgreens etc. Keep these quick wipes on the back of your toilet or someplace easily accessible to do quick wipe downs. My potty training tot inspired this move recently, as I found that his bathroom hygiene habits were not much to be revered, so after each use, I found myself grabbing an alcohol wipe and wiping the light switch plate, the door knob (both sides), the toilet handle and the toilet seat (in this order).

Another leg up for the few minutes you spend in the bathroom yourself, keep a glass spray bottle out (add a pretty label if you like; I prefer clear as it blends into the bathroom quite discretely). Choose a tinted bottle if you have essential oils in your mix though. Some recommendations would be DoTerra On Guard blend and water, or Four Thieves Germ Buster by aromatherapy naturals.com; above I have Melaleuca.com’s disinfectant but I have used just isopropyl alcohol too. Melaleuca has a little more tub/tile scrubbing power than the other options, and you’ll need it of your using paper towel as scrubbing power is not its best quality a’tall, and seeing as my bathroom get super grimy, super quick, I needed a lil something extra. I have a small stack of paper towels discretely hidden on top of the medicine cabinet for an easy grab to wipe down the sink with my spray bottle. I use the alcohol wipes on the mirror. If your not a paper towel user, which I typically am not, but my MIL brought a roll with her recent visit leaving it behind, and I decided this would be the most convenient use for the left overs; put a commando hook inside the medicine cabinet or on the side of a vanity, someplace discreet, to hang a good microfiber cloth. ECloth bathroom cloth is a great choice, it has a convenient tag with which to hang it from, as does a more costly option, Norwex, which incorporates silver into its cloths to stop the cloth from accumulating bacteria. If your using any of THESE cloths, nothing more than water and a disinfecting oil is needed in your spray bottle, as the cloth holds the scrubbing power needed for a dirty job.

After your done using the bathroom, and go to wash your hands, take FIVE MINUTES and spray down your sink with your spray bottle. Then grab an alcohol wipe and wipe your light switch plate, door knob, faucet handles, toilet handle, and toilet seat (in this order); while your at it, check the base of your toilet where it seems your kids aim versus the bowl itself:/ Then discard the alcohol wipe and reach for a piece of your paper towel or your bathroom cloth, and wipe down the sink, pedestal too if you have one, wash hands and finito!

This should keep your bathroom sparkling and disinfected with no more than 3-5 minutes added on to your bathroom routine, and stop you from feeling your full cleans don’t last long enough.

All in a days work………Godspeed!
