TIP: Have yerself a Hump Day

You momma’s be wearing too many hats these days. Having to run a home, manage a family, work and now homeschool your kids on top of it all with this COVID-craze, can you say BURN OUT?!!!!! Only one good part; your not alone.

There are a few of us crazy moms out there who been doing this forever, as in, long before the COVID thing. So here is a little tip from me to you, as one of those mamma’s who have to wear WAAAAAAY too many hats, regularly, and still homeschool. Have yourself a hump day!

What’s a hump day?

It’s a break. A day to get you over the hump, past your expiration, to the end of each week withOUT the burnout. I do t care of your new to homeschooling because of COVID or your a veteran that’s been doing this for years, if you’re not currently benefiting from a hump day in your schedule, you need to start. Wednesday is the PERFECT day for hump day. It’s mid week, right about the time ya probably burn out anyways, so let loose and shake it up a bit. On hump day you take off from work or school to do anything BUT that. Maybe you need a day for doctor or dentist appointment, some PE, maybe you wanna take a class, clean your house, clean your car, catch-up on laundry, visit a friend, take a drive, a hike, bake something fabulous or just vegg-out and be lazy watching video blogs or trolling Facebook. We all do it, so c’mon let’s schedule it. Maybe you need this day for work if your a FT homeschooling mom. I do. Maybe you wanna volunteer for something, or just have a life outside of homeschool. So set aside a day to do just that.

Trust me you will be more motivated Mondays if you have a hump day to look forward to on Wednesday. You will dedicate yourself more fully when you see a light at the end of the tunnel and a break every two days is much easier to wait for than a full work week. When wearing this many hats you need more breathers to help you keep jumping from one thing to the next, to the next, and to…the…NEXT. Exhausting!

Kids need hUmp days too.

When I first started incorporating a hump day I thought it was more so for the little kids. After tall they are jut too young to live through the daily grind that we do, they need time to stop and smell the roses and just love life. Who knew I needed it as much as they do 🤣

But seriously, a four day week is plenty to get the serious work done. When Wednesday comes around, focus on some fun, maybe your kids art projects you didn’t have time for during the school week, some coloring, incorporate supplemental videos on topics they are studying (we’re doing medieval/Middle Ages this year so El CID, Sword in the Stone, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Quest for Camelot etc) or some Home Ec like baking and cleaning. That’s right!…you heard me….cleaning. Kids need to clean too. After all aren’t they the ones messing the place up all the time? Ever feel like their rooms is ALWAYS a mess because there is just never enough time to clean it up? Hump days are perfect for getting kids deep into a task. Like weed out old clothes they don’t like or don’t fit anymore, organize the closet, clear a desk, DUST (yup, give those guppies a swiffer duster; they love it; teach those teens the value of a breathable space), pick up the floor, change their bed sheets, WHATEVER! Encourage them to take pride in their space and motivate them to stay on top of it.

Hump days keep my family and I motivated throughout the week and prevent burn out. It gives us time to enjoy life as well work throughout it. So if your overloaded with work and homeschool too, have YOURself a hump day as well.
