🧢 Hat Hack! Clean it!

Got a favorite hat, grimy and greasy from sweat and sand? Maybe it’s your kids baseball cap or your husbands yard cap, either way I gotta hack for you that will snap it back to new:)

Clean that cap 🧢

My recent high school graduated son has been working at a fancy golf club caddying and takes such great pride in his white uniform cap. Only problem is the sweat rings appear after almost every use and so does a mark from almost ANYTHING that the cap gets set on: a bench, seat of a car and even dust or grit from a back pack. So he and I trialed a quick cleaning hack for hats that this son of mine who doesn’t usually leave much time for cleaning and laundering, can practically do. It was so successful and he was so wow’d by its results that he religiously repeated it each time his coveted cap got dirty or stained. He regularly sports this blinging white, reflective head piece all around the course and says it’s even reflecting the sun and reduces sunburns it’s SO WHITE!! My girlfriend who has two sons of her own that wear caps as often as underwear, expressed a cringing need to clean those caps of theirs too but the dishwasher rack that was recommended to her was just as cringy as the idea of wearing a crusty old cap. I’d have to agree with her, although placing them on the top rack of your dishwasher seems an excellent idea, if your cringing at the thought of it too, try this one instead; it also cleans it and brightens and whitens. Try that dishwasher!

  1. First, treat any stains by juicing half a lemon into a cup of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda and making a drippy paste to the consistency of honey. There are no measurements here, just eye it. Then swipe a tooth brush into the paste n brush it onto the caps stains. Adding a drop or two of dish or laundry soap will also lift stains above just whiten. Let cap sit after this step til it dries.
  2. Fill a mixing bowl that fits the entire cap with cold water, the other half of lemon juice juiced into the bowl of water, a squirt or two of hydrogen peroxide into the water as well, and laundry soap (optional). Then submerge the hat upside down in the bowl and leave for an hour to overnight.
  3. Lastly, rinse the hat in the sink using the faucet sprayer if you have one only if you used soap otherwise skip the rinse and let dry in the sun. Don’t skip the sun even in the winter for the house or a dry rack because it actually disinfects further deodorizes and brightens and whitens. If you don’t want discoloration of your colored caps to occur, then just dry the cap upside down in the sun set on a clean towel so it doesn’t get dirty again from setting it on something. If your doing this in winter even the snow will act as reflector and shine and whiten your cap much like a beach bum will use a mirror in front of their face to tan.
