My name is Kathleen Prescott, owner and operator of A Green Clean, currently servicing Litchfield County, CT. I made the switch to a more natural, greener life style in 2010 when our 4th child, then 2 years old, got his hands on a chemical cleaner and managed to dump it onto his face. Traumatic situation, but long story short, after calling poison control etc I learned that out of the 2,000 FDA approved cleaners, 209 of them are KNOWN carcinogens, almost all of them are toxic, if not fatal if ingested. I had to ask myself “why do we even have such things in our home?” It wasn’t worth the risk. Going back to the basics, after our sons traumatic event, we kept only vinegar, baking soda and Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap, aside from the occasional use of freshly squeezed lemon (and my more recent addition of DoTerra essential oils) that was the extent of our cleaning supply. EVERYTHING that came into my house had to be ingestible without harm.
That was the first step. It wasn’t a gradual transition, it was cold turkey. Although one move did inspire another, and another, we never looked back. We started transitioning to organic foods, local farming, cloth diapering and cloth vs paper towels, composting and more.
Although, my basic natural cleaning supply suffices for me in my own home, in my business, I wanted to offer my clients something more. My search for effective, natural, essential oil based cleaners, landed me with Aromatherapynaturals.com who now supplies the bulk of my cleaning supply, along with Biokleen. I still use Dr. Bronners and DoTerra, and have a Diamond in the rough from Shaklee, my cherished scour off.
It has been a worth while transition, an educating experience and a healthy alternative; what began as a traumatic situation, stemmed a process for more growth potential regarding health AND home, and I encourage you in the same. Don’t let the fear of the unknown hold you back. Don’t wait for a traumatic exposure to motivate to making healthier, safer choices for you, your family and your home. Embrace nature, Gods green earth, which has sustained us from the very beginning, and lets not pollute it or ourselves unnecessarily any longer.
sincerely,
Kathleen Prescott
Very well stated Kathleen, who wouldn’t want to follow the same footprint after reading how elementary and simplistic t actually can be.
